Dr. Joanna Roufos, Audiologist, has over 28 years of experience working with pediatrics through geriatrics. Dr. Roufos is a licensed Audiologist and Hearing Aid Dispenser in the state of New York. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology as a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (FAAA). Dr. Roufos received her Bachelor's degree in English Education in 1992 and her Master of Audiology degree in 1994 from Saint John's University. While working as an Executive Director, she returned to school to obtain her Doctorate degree in Audiology in 2007 from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences.

Dr. Roufos has published her research in The Hearing Journal with a special interest in measuring insertion gain in children with hearing aids. Furthermore, she has lectured on several occasions including at the Joint Conference of the National Council on the Aging and the American Society on Aging, and the International Pediatric conferences regarding technology for Deaf students. Dr. Roufos regularly enrolls in continuing education courses to further sharpen her innate skills for serving her patients, collaborating with her professional multidisciplinary colleagues and lead her team creatively. Additionally, she is involved in the medical advisory board of the nonprofit The Little Baby Face Foundation and is a member of the Hellenic Medical Association of New York. As the Former Executive Director of Lexington Hearing & Speech Center of the Lexington School for the Deaf, Dr. Roufos was responsible for providing and leading her team to provide services to the Deaf students of the largest school for the Deaf in New York. She led the Early Intervention Program, in addition to the Speech Language Pathology Program and the Community clinic serving Deaf and hard of hearing adults and elderly patients. Dr. Roufos has also had professional educational appointments as Adjunct Professor of Doctoral Studies at Saint John's University and Adelphi University and Clinical Supervisor at Saint John's University Hearing and Speech Center. Furthermore, she has and continues to mentor doctoral residents in audiology from all local schools in the New York City Area and the respective boroughs.

In New York City, Dr. Roufos has operated her own comprehensive Audiology Clinic primarily at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Infirmary (MEETH) in the past prior to her transition to her larger private practice office in the Upper East Side in 2019. She has obtained certified center of excellence certifications for adults with complex listening needs. Dr. Roufos has special interests in assistive listening devices to assist her patients in optimal hearing in various noisy and difficult listening situations in addition to hearing aids such as telecoils and FM systems (frequency modulated systems) which were commonly used with her pediatric patients at Lexington School for the Deaf where Dr. Roufos spearheaded a school-wide transition to wireless FM technology.

Dr. Roufos also has a special interest in cognition and hearing and is the first private practice in NYC to include a cognitive screener into her diagnostic comprehensive audiological evaluation to guide patients to select the correct technology level and recommend additional aural rehabilitation programs and exercises as needed. She continues to obtain the newest and best technologies in her clinic such as laser ear scanners for precise and miniaturized custom hearing aid shell fabrication, state-of-the-art audiological equipment for accurate diagnosis, (ADD Real ear measurement to verify hearing aid benefit ) and specialty equipment for brainstem and vestibular / balance diagnostic testing.

Furthermore, she continues to offer state-of-the-art hearing aid technology from all manufacturers so patients have a wide range of products from which to select. Dr. Roufos has had extensive experience in both the clinical and business aspects of audiology and compassionate nature to serve those with communication difficulties. Dr. Roufos can communicate in Greek and American Sign Language.
